FEATURE FILM JURY
Manuel Asín is the artistic director of the Punto de Vista International Documentary Film Festival of Navarra and head of the Film Department of the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. Previously, he was director of the film distribution company and book and DVD publisher Intermedio (2010-2015). As an independent programmer, he has produced cycles for film libraries, festivals and art and film institutions such as Filmoteca Española, Museo Reina Sofía, Xcèntric-CCCB, Instituto Moreira Salles, Seville European Film Festival, Tabakalera, CGAI, IVAC- La Filmoteca, Bilbao Arte, Zinebi, etc. He has published texts in national and international magazines such as Trafic, Cahiers du cinéma and Caimán Cuadernos de Cine, where he is a member of the editorial board. He is an Associate Professor at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and also teaches at the master of the Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola (San Sebastián).
Hervé Birolini explores all the areas of sound. From concert pieces to installations, from electroacoustic performances to incidental music for films and drama, from radiophonic art to mixed music, his different experimentations enrich each other and constantly question his role as a composer.Essentially electronic, his music is produced with physical, concrete or instrumental materials but is also based on sound objects produced through virtual instrument-making, personalized and in constant reinvention. In his work, technology is a tool as well as a way to question the contemporary production of the sensitive.

Radu Jude is a film director from Romania. Born in 1977 , he made several short films before moving on to feature films with The Happiest Girl in the World (2009). He made other feature films and documentaries, like Aferim! (Silver Bear for Best Director), Uppercase Print (2020), Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (Golden Bear at the Berlinale 2021) and Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World (Jury Prize in Locarno 2023). Currently in postproduction with two found-footage films.
Born in Spain, based in Paris, since 2015 Andrea Queralt is part of 4A4 Productions, where she has produced features such as Pepe by Nelson Carlo de Los Santos Arias (Silver Bear Berlinale 2024), Fire Will Come by Oliver Laxe (Jury Prize Festival de Cannes Un certain regard 2019), Foremost By Night by Victor Iriarte (Venice Days 2023), Matadero by Santiago Fillol (Locarno 2022) or Before Summer Ends by Maryam Goormaghtigh (ACID Cannes 2017). She is currently producing the next features by Oliver Laxe and Ben Rivers. In 2020 she was the French representative for Producers on the Move. She has given talks at Universitat Pompeu Fabra’s Creative Documentary Master, Tabakalera San Sebastián, Márgenes Madrid or Film Study Center in Harvard University.
Marie Voignier is an artist and a filmmaker. While her practise of photography led her to enrol at Lyon’s School of Fine Arts, she has since been focused on making films, including Moi aussi j’aime la politique (FID, 2022), Na China (Visions du Réel, 2020), Tinselwood (Berlinale, 2017), and L’Hypothèse du Mokélé-Mbembé (FID, 2011). Her work has also been shown in exhibitions (at the 2017 Venice Biennale, at the Centre Pompidou in 2018, at the 2019 edition of LAXART in Los Angeles). Marie Voignier is based in Paris, where she is represented by the art gallery Marcelle Alix. She teaches at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris.
SHORT FILM AND FIRST FILM JURY
Ico Costa is a Portuguese film director and producer, who works between Portugal and Mozambique. Among other works he directed the short films Nyo Vweta Nafta (Rotterdam, 2017), Timkat (Visións du Réel, 2021) and Domy+Ailucha : Ket Stuff! (Cinéma du réel, 2022), the documentary Uproar, Eclipse (Doclisboa, 2017), and the fiction feature film Alva (Rotterdam, 2019). He is now finishing a documentary and a fiction feature film, both shot in Mozambique. In 2019 he founded the production company Oublaum Filmes, which has recently produced Striking Land (Raul Domingues, Berlinale 2022), Waters of Pastaza (Inês T. Alves, Berlinale 2022), Tomorrow is a Long Time (Jow Zhi Wei, Berlinale 2023) and The Human Surge 3 (Eduardo Williams, Locarno 2023).
Garbiñe Ortega is a film curator. Her curatorial work has been programmed internationally at Film Society of Lincoln Center (New York), Tate Modern (London), National Gallery of Art (Washington) and Pacific Film Archive (California), among others. She was the co-director of programming at Ambulante, Mexico (2015) and the artistic director of Punto de Vista Film Festival (2018-2021). She is an editor of the cinema books Correspondencias (2018), To light, to love, to time: Jonathan Schwartz (2019), Meditaciones sobre el presente: Ute Aurand, Helga Fanderl, Jeannette Muñoz, Renate Sami (2020) and Cartas como películas (2021, included in the Brooklyn Rail Best 20 Art Books of the Year list). She has produced films by Nicolás Pereda (Mi piel luminosa, 2019) Lois Patiño (Samsara, 2023) and Matias Piñeiro (Tú me abrasas, 2024). She teaches film curatorship Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola (San Sebastián).
Hila Peleg is a curator, filmmaker and educator. She organizes interdisciplinary cultural events in public institutions internationally, including: HKW - Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin; Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw; The Vancouver Art Gallery; Art Museum at the University of Toronto; CCA - Canadian Centre for Architecture, Montréal; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Iniva, Institute of International Visual Art, London. Peleg was a curator of documenta 14 in Athens and Kassel (2017), of the 10th Shanghai Biennale (2014) and of Manifesta 7 in Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol (2008). In 2010 she founded the Berlin Documentary Forum, a biennial event devoted to the production and presentation of contemporary and historical documentary practices in an interdisciplinary context.
Joffrey Speno was born in Ambilly, France, in 1987. A filmmaker, film critic, and programmer, he lives and works in Paris. In 2016, he obtained a Master’s degree in Film from the Sorbonne Nouvelle thanks to his research on Leni Riefenstahl. In 2013, he shot the first of over thirty documentary film portraits called La Parole aux Morts. From 2016 to 2022, he worked as a film critic for Diacritik, Répliques, Images de la culture and Mediapart’s L’Esprit critique. In 2020, he became part of Les Écrans Documentaires and, in 2022, took up the position of art director at En temps reel, a festival dedicated to emergent documentary practices. He also works as a programmer for the French-language Film Festival in Greece (Faire genre·s à l’écran), FIFAM (Gay Rom Com), Clef Revival, and Archipel.

Artist and filmmaker Deborah Stratman makes work around issues of power, control and belief, exploring how places, ideas, and society are intertwined. She regards sound as the ultimate multi-tool and time to be supernatural. Stratman’s films and artworks have been exhibited and awarded internationally. They have addressed freedom, surveillance, public speech, sinkholes, levitation, orthoptera, raptors, comets, street drag racing, tight rope walking, evolution, extinction, exodus, sisterhood and faith. Stratman lives in Chicago where she teaches at the University of Illinois.
JURY OF THE CLARENS AWARD FOR HUMANIST DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKING
Marie Balducchi is a French producer at AGAT Films/Ex Nihilo, a collective of associated producers in Paris. On a daily basis, the company reconciles an individual practice which consists of developing, producing and promoting the work of authors and a collective practice based on financial, editorial and human solidarity between the associates. Marie Balducchi produces films for both cinema and television and participates in film support commissions like Europe Creative Media, CNC Cinemas du Monde. She is a member of L’académie des Césars.
Born in 1989 in Paris, Hadrien Frémont studied Fine Arts at the Sorbonne University where he obtained a Master’s degree "Spaces, places, exhibitions, networks". He then continued to study at the IESA Arts and Culture where he obtained the title of Expert in the marketing and distribution of contemporary art works. Since the end of 2020, he is working as a freelance for the Clarens Foundation striving to promote any activity aimed at redefining humanist values in contemporary terms. In this context, Hadrien Frémont will be part of the Jury, representing the Foundation, at the Clarens Foundation Humanist Documentary Award.
A member of Ateliers Varan and a teacher at Paris 8 University, Raphaël Girardot is also a sound editor (Ossam Mohamed, Mariana Otera, Diana El Jeroudi, Wang Bing…) and a documentary filmmaker interested in exploring social issues. Often directing films in tandem, Girardot also serves as a camera operator and as an occasional editor on his films. He has directed ten films, including Ex Moulinex, mon travail c’est capital (Filmer le travail, 2001), Le Lait sur le feu (Escales documentaires, 2007), A te regarder ils s’habitueront (Fipa, 2012), Avec le sang des hommes (winner of the Best Documentary Film Award at Luchon, in 2016), Saigneurs (Cinéma du Réel, 2017), and Que m’est-il permis d’espérer (awarded by the Social Film Festival in 2021).
After his university years in Bordeaux, Xavier Marquier has moved toward live performance, music, jazz in particular. He later had the opportunity after a brief career as a musician to write about this music and to produce a few artists. Writing led him to images and production. He developed this activity on all types of media and formats by producing reports, recordings, writing documentary and fiction projects.
Isabelle Rèbre has directed a dozen films exploring the creative act, including André S. Labarthe de la tête aux pieds (2003), La Peinture de Jean Rustin (2006), Ricardo Cavallo ou Le Rêve de l’épervier (2013) and Pollock&Pollock, released in 2023. In an upcoming essay, she examines the use of photographs in essay films in their relation to memory and loss. On the same topic, she is the author of La Dernière photographie: Sarabande de Ingmar Bergman (La Lettre volée, 2017). She has written several fiction books, including Moi quelqu’un (Actes Sud Papiers, 1998) and Ton 8 mai 1945 et le mien (France Culture, 2000). She has produced over thirty radio documentaries for France Culture.

YOUNG JURY
The Young Jury awards the Ciné + Young Jury Award to a feature film from the Competition. This year, the six members of the Young Jury are accompanied by Mathieu Berthon.
Mathieu Berthon is a film distributor working with Météore Films, a company he founded in November 2015 after ten years in the field. With Films du Losange and Potemkine Films, he was involved in the theatrical release of over 70 films, including Michael Haneke’s two Palme d’Or wins, Abderrahmane Sissako’s Bamako, the films of Lars Von Trier and Nicolas Philibert, Pierre Schoeller’s Versailles, Ossama Mohammed’s Eau argentée, and a Werner Herzog retrospective. Over the last nine years, Météore has helped release over 30 films in France, two of which earned a Golden Bear award, working in longstanding collaboration with filmmakers such as Frederick Wiseman, Gianfranco Rosi, Radu Jude, Dominique Marchais, Jean-Gabriel Piérot...
JURY DES BIBLIOTHÈQUES
Yann Faure is responsible for the cinema collections at the Assia Djebar library, a local library located on the outskirts of the 20th arrondissement in Paris. The library is above all a place for life and meetings for its users, whether they are readers or not. As such, it offers numerous activities including the Djebarama, a fun film club dedicated to film analysis, a privileged moment of exchange and discussion around films.
After studying film, Caroline Fisbach joined the Video Department at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, where she acquired a thorough knowledge of the video collections included in the national registry. There, she developed a keen interest for documentary films and joined the commission in charge of selecting visual media for libraries nationwide. In 2021, she began working as a programmer for the short fiction film festival Jeunesses-tout-courts, in Rémalard.
Audrey Ginestet is a filmmaker, musician, sound technician, and sound mixer working in film and radio. She plays bass, sings, and composes with the Aquaserge collective and with other artists. Her first feature-length film, Relaxe, claimed the Loridan-Ivens/CNAP Prize at Cinéma du Réel and came out in theatres in April 2023.
Bibliothécaire, Delphine Ledru dirige le service Art et Image de la Delphine Ledru is a librarian in charge of the Art and Image Department at the Mériadeck Library, in Bordeaux. In 2020, she joined the commission tasked with the selection of documentary films for libraries nationwide, coordinated by Images en Bibliothèques.
JURY ROUTE ONE/DOC
After studying philosophy, Cécile Cadoux gained experience in production (Moby Dick Films, Château Rouge Production), then distribution (Zootrope Films, ED Distribution) before joining the organization and programming of film festivals (Cinéma du réel, Théâtres au cinéma...). Since 2008, she has been working at the Entrevues Belfort International Film Festival.

Marcello Cavagna studied law in Milan, Italy, where he grew up. After moving to Paris, he worked as a translator and as a correspondent for an Italian regional newspaper, as an executive producer on a documentary film shot during the making of Peter Greenaway’s The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover, directed a short fiction film, and joined the GREC’s production team.
Within Hippocampe, a company he founded in 2009, Jordane Oudin produces films of all genres and lengths. He works with the French filmmakers Louis Séguin (Marinaleda), Carmen Leroi (No Regrets), Quentin Papapietro (Saintonge Roundabout), Gu Yu (The Good Education) and Adrien Genoudet (No Signal). He's also specialized in international coproductions, especially with Asian countries and more particularly China (A New Old Play by Qiu Jiongjiong, Locarno Special Jury Prize in 2021).
Valentine Roulet began her career in 1986 by launching her production company, Sirius Films, through which she produced a dozen documentary films. With the association Arcanal, she went on to oversee several coproductions of films based on live performance works. In 1994, she joined the Centre National du Cinéma as a policy officer on documentary and the performing arts, going on to hold the position of head of the Creation Department until 2020. She is now part of the Documentary Fund programme of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, and sits on the Board of Périphérie’s “Filmmakers in Residence” programme. She advises documentary filmmakers on writing, hosts professional events (Lussas, Mellionnec, Lasalle…) and has stepped up, as of July 2023, as head of the creative documentary platform Tënk.
Algerian-Italian, born in Switzerland, Yamina Zoutat first worked for more than ten years as a court reporter in Paris. The criminal court was her "film school". She dedicates her first film Les Lessiveuses (Laundry) (2010) to the mothers who do laundry for their sons sentenced to a long prison term. This film was then adapted for opera. After Retour au palais (6999 Doors) (2017), an intimate exploration of the Palais de Justice in Paris from the mousetrap to the rooftops, Chienne de rouge (Bloodhound) (2023), her feature film about blood, won the Audience Award at DocumentaMadrid and the Special Jury Mention at the DMZ Festival in South Korea. Screened in many international festivals, the movie is released in French theatres in February 2024.

JURY OF THE PRÉLUDES AWARD
Thomas Carillon, président fondateur de Préludes
Diplômée d’une Licence de Cinéma et d’Histoire de l’art à La Sorbonne et d’un Master Patrimoines Audiovisuels à l’INA, Louise Gerbelle s’investit dans différentes structures comme la Cinémathèque Française, Potemkine Films et la plateforme Le Cinéma Club à New York. Dès 2019, elle se spécialise dans la coordination de festivals et la programmation, après plusieurs années au sein de l’équipe de la Fête du court-métrage et du Festival Off-Courts à Trouville, ainsi que de la sélection Cannes Classics du Festival de Cannes. Aujourd’hui, elle est chargée de diffusion pour la plateforme Préludes, et continue son activité de programmation, notamment pour l’Aegean Film Festival en Grèce.
Vincent Paul-Boncour is the co-founder and manager of Carlotta Films—a leading actor in the distribution of classic films in theatres and on DVD-Blu-ray-UHD. Over the course of two and a half decades dedicated to passing on his love of films, Paul-Boncour also created Bodega Films, a distribution company which specialises in original releases. With the Belgian film Alabama Monroe, the company won the 2014 César Award for Best Foreign Film. Paul-Boncour stayed on six years as the manager and programmer of the Parisian cinema Le Nouveau Latina, turning this neighbourhood venue into an active player in the field of art-house films. His latest ventures include the launch of Carlotta Films US, the publishing of books—including a go-to dictionary of Japanese cinema, a new edition of Samuel Blumenfeld and Laurent Vachaud’s Brian de Palma, and Ozu’s personal journal—as well as the launch of a SVoD platform, Le Vidéo Club Carlotta Films.
Born in Paris, Yolande Zauberman made her first steps in film working alongside Amos Gitaï. In 1987, she made her directorial debut with Classified People, a documentary that focused on the South African Apartheid and won numerous awards, including the Grand Prix awarded by the Paris Film Festival. In 1989, Caste criminelle, shot in India, was selected at Cannes. Three years later, Yolande Zauberman directed her first feature film, Me Ivan, You Abraham, a Yiddish-language film which won several international awards, including the Youth Prize at Cannes. Her next project was a documentary trilogy set in the Israeli night: Would You Have Sex with an Arab? (Venice Festival, 2011); M (internationally awarded, César Award for Best Documentary Film in 2020); and the upcoming film La Belle de Gaza, set to be released on 29 May 2024.
JURY OF INMATES FROM THE BOIS-D’ARCY PRISON
The jury of inmates from the Bois-d’Arcy prison is made up of around ten inmates and two members of civil society, Roxane Lebastard and Raffaelli Holguin.
