What can documentary film do in times of crisis?
Can it position itself in the urgency of current events, war and crisis, and thus follow in the footsteps of reportage without abandoning artistic rigour and ambition?
Is it possible to strike a balance between creative documentary, cinema on the ground, committed to its characters, and an aesthetic ambition that would call into question images that are too familiar, nauseating, chilling and stupefying? By providing a different, in-depth and subjective perspective?
The documentary cinema we are interested in questions the position of the filmmaker, the place of the camera, and how to resist the urgency of current events.
At Addoc we defend cinema as a tool in the fight against the superficial and discriminatory ideas that inundate us. It’s a cinema that encourages viewers to become more aware, to think, and – perhaps – to get involved.
