FILMING THE OPPONENT
The opponent is not the monster. We wage merciless war on the monster. But who is the adversary? The filmmaker recognises that the adversary has a singular status: that of having a point of view that is still audible, despite the disagreements. He bets that a “we” is possible, and the opponent accepts the experiment.
This debate is an opportunity to bring together a number of filmmakers who go to meet their political antagonists, convinced that the mass has not yet been said. In the space of the film, each of them inaugurates a singular place where the balance of power, otherwise so fixed, becomes shifting and complex once again. The person holding the camera does not necessarily have power over the other. He films against, but also all against, at the risk of making the adversary likeable or, conversely, inviting fear, anger or hatred.
