In November 1948, James Baldwin left New York and, thanks to a fellowship grant, relocated to Paris. The 24-year-old writer would spend most of the next decade there. Jimmy is a portrait of the artist reconnecting with the world.

Yashaddai Owens

Born in 1998 in Brooklyn, New York. He spent much of his early life traversing several different U.S. states with formative years in Chicago, Illinois before settling back in New York, where he currently lives and works. Owens is the eldest of 11 and was raised in a Black Jewish community. For his whole life he has been surrounded by stories to tell. He began documenting his life and telling his own stories during his first trip abroad in 2018. His work includes a handheld aspect which enables him to heighten the urgency of a scene and give it width, profundity, and flexibility to discover the truth. Everything enchants him: from the delightful, to the horrible.
