The murderous conflicts in Africa, Syria, Donbass, Ukraine, Nagorno-Karabakh, Palestine, the repression of the weakest, the horror of war: in the 21st century, how can cinema deal with the world-wide firestorm we are experiencing? At the heart of cinematographic issues, can representation help us understand something other than the events themselves? What is the purpose of films? Do these wars, this firestorm, this violence, this destruction also transform cinema? We will discuss these issues with filmmakers facing an increasing urgency to deal with them.

Nicolas Klotz and Elisabeth Perceval’s film, Cosmocide, will be screened, as a French preview, at the opening of the session.

With Marie-José Mondzain, Nicolas Klotz, Elisabeth Perceval, Avi Mograbi, Mohanad Yaqubi…
Discussion hosted by Raphaël Nieuwjaer
